Counseling for school-age kids and parents

As a secondary prevention service, the free counseling program is an effective and valuable resource to the community. Local students and parents in need can identify solutions to issues causing them problems at school or home, before problems progress and more serious measures must be taken.

The Counseling Program is available free to local school students and their parents. The program has been supported by the United Way of Phelps County since 1983.

Parents are usually referred to the program by local school teachers, administrators, or guidance counselors directly, or after requests for assistance from parents have been made. Services are provided by licensed professionals.

Counseling program services are considered short-term, which means in most situations, students and/or parents will usually be seen at most six to eight times. If additional or more intensive services are needed, parents will be referred to other services in the community.
